This is quite a poor watercolour copy of what was probably originally an oil painting on canvas. For me, making this copy became a meditative experience, although it began with a sense of irritation.
The original image is printed on a postcard. On the back, in Dutch, it says: “Painting made by an Alzheimer patient.” The postcard was published by the Alzheimer Foundation.

I wondered why the artist is identified only by his/her illness. There may have been legal reasons that prevented the publication of the painter’s name, but it still feels unfair.
Another reason I fell in love with this painting and decided to make a copy, is the joy it radiates. It seems to capture a quiet summer afternoon in the Dutch countryside. Even if all memories are lost, the ability to enjoy the present moment may still remain.
