Painting, Sketching & Enjoying Arts

Self-portrait as a coffee-pot (Movie 2024)

A film Directed by William Kentridge a painter, director, designer and probably philosopher on art and life in general. There is much going on in these 9 series of short films but one quote I just can’t forget; ‘I don’t come with timeless truths. My consciousness is not illuminated with ultimate radiances but there are too many idiots in the world.’

For all those amateur artists like me there is a comforting idea offered by William: ‘wherever you put your markings, sooner or later they will become relevant.’

With his doppelgänger he explores hope, optimism and the possibilities of art and expression. His studio is a stage for play, work and thoughts on things connected with art which in his case is everything. An other nice quote that fits into this movie is; ‘ a studio is a safe space for stupidity’.
