Archie my travel companion

I used to travel a lot with Archie in my car. Even on long trips, he never complained—though after six hours of driving, he always wanted a break every two hours. I thought that was very reasonable, and honestly, I probably needed the breaks too. When the car got warm, the air-conditioning didn’t quite reach […]
Mon Oncle (Movie 1958)

Mon Oncle is a colour movie and according to Wikipedia the first one in colour. Mr. Hulot, a character made up by Tati lives in an old neighbourhood at the top of a complicated house that I partially depicted in my small sketch. Het is a brother of a woman married to a successful industrialist […]
The Capsule (Movie 2012)

The Capsule is a short movie (35 min) directed by Athina Rachel Tsangari who is also the writer. Probably she knows what the film is about but I don’t. I can describe what I saw. Seven beautiful women appear out of nothing in a old deserted mension and perform some kind of rituals in the […]
Playtime (Movie 1967)

Monsieur Hulot, a character created by Jacques Tati, is in a modern part of Paris. It’s unclear why he is in this place made of concrete and glass, but he wanders around, meets friends, and observes the world with curiosity. Meanwhile, a group of American tourists explores the city in their own typical way. The […]
Venice restaurant

We had lunch at a restaurant in Venice, away from the busy tourist areas—if such places exist. In front of us, a local man, who clearly knew the restaurant owner, was enjoying his wine and spaghetti. He ate calmly and with focus, enjoying every bite. It was clear he felt completely at home.
Traffic (Movie 1971)

Monsieur Hulot, Tati’s iconic character, is now a car designer. He has created a camper packed with modern gadgets to ensure a fun and successful holiday experience. However, the camper needs to be showcased to the world. To do this, it must be transported from Paris to Amsterdam for the Auto Rai exhibition, which features […]
Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot (Movie 1953)

A character created by Jacques Tati goes on a summer holiday by the sea. The movie blends comedy and slapstick while cleverly poking fun at our holiday habits. It’s an excellent film, and it inspired me to explore more of Tati’s creations.
Murder on the Orient Express (Movie 1974)

There are two versions of this story by Agatha Christie. The most recent one is from 1974. In this version, the Belgian detective isn’t so much grappling with the mystery of the murder as he is wrestling with his conscience.
Boy by Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl wrote Boy as a story about his childhood. One of the funny parts is about a dead mouse and a sweet-shop owner. Some parts are less funny, like the way children were treated at boarding school. I’ve never been to a boarding school, but this drawing shows how I imagine it might look […]
Self-portrait as a coffee-pot (Movie 2024)

A film Directed by William Kentridge a painter, director, designer and probably philosopher on art and life in general. There is much going on in these 9 series of short films but one quote I just can’t forget; ‘I don’t come with timeless truths. My consciousness is not illuminated with ultimate radiances but there are […]
